Kaalakaandi song: Saif Ali Khan leads in the cool, funky ‘Swagpur Ka Chaudhary’

The first song from next year’s comedy gathers the cast in an original and modern video.

The trailer of the dark comedy Kaalakaandi (2018) was unpredictable and daring. The first song out today from the film follows pretty much the same path.

The video for ‘Swagpur Ka Chaudhary’, written and sung by Akshay Verma, is a contradiction. The lyrics are very desi but the look and feel of the video is decidedly modern. Verma sings the song, composed by Sameer Uddin, in Haryanvi-accented Hindi.

The quirky and at times whimsical video gathers the ensemble cast of the film, including male lead Saif Ali Khan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Isha Talwar, Akshay Oberoi, Shenaz Treasury, Neil Bhoopalam, Nary Singh and Deepak Dobriyal.

Dobriyal, who is rarely featured in Hindi film songs, is seen dancing around, dressed in a cool and contemporary outfit. ‘Swagpur Ka Chaudhary’ gives each cast member a moment to shine.

The video is enhanced by some nifty special effects, playing in the background and in and around the artistes, all of which give the song added points for its swag factor.

Kaalakaandi is scheduled to be released on 12 January 2018. Meanwhile watch the song here:
