It came as a surprise when Sony Entertainment Television announced the return of Kaun Banega Crorepati with Amitabh Bachchan again hosting the show.

The shoot for the new season began yesterday and Bachchan tweeted a picture of himself from Famous Studio, Mumbai, where the game show is being shot.

Bachchan, who first hosted the show in the 2000, celebrated the 17 years of the show.

The show is an adaptation of international game show, 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' The veteran star hosted the first two seasons (2000, 2005) of Kaun Banega Crorepati, broadcast on Star Plus before health issues forced him to take a break. He was replaced by Shah Rukh Khan for the third season in 2007.

The show returned three years later with Bachchan again asking the questions, though, on a new network, Sony Entertainment Channel. Acceding to popular demand, he hosted the show for five successive seasons before the dwindling TRPs (Television Ratings Points) forced Sony to discontinue the show.

The latest season of the Kaun Banega Crorepati will mark its return on the small screen after three years.
