In January this year, Karan Johar and Salman Khan announced a joint production with Akshay Kumar. The film was Battle Of Saragarhi, based on the battle of Sikh soldiers against Afghans in 1897.

Later on, it was learnt that Ajay Devgn is also making a film on the same story. Hence, there were reports about Johar and Salman’s project being shelved. However, at the end of last month, Akshay confirmed that the film is indeed on. While talking about Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, he had said, “Battle of Saragarhi is happening.” When asked if Salman is still producing it, he had said, “That is being figured out.”

Now, we have learnt that Salman has pulled out of the project after knowing that Devgn is making a film on the same subject.

The Shivaay actor himself revealed this in a recent interview. “Salman Khan is not making Battle of Saragarhi. I am not too sure if somebody else is making it or not. I am making the film for sure, but I will take some time. I have always maintained that the film will be made on a very big scale and I will need, at least, two years’ time for that film,” he said.

Devgn also clearly gave a hint that Battle Of Saragarhi is not shelved. “If anyone wants to make it, they can make it and release it as well. I will release my film after them, but I am making the film for sure,” he added.

It is speculated that Khan didn’t want to get caught between the Johar-Devgn war. For those not in the know, Devgn and Johar’s battle began when their films Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil clashed last year at the box office.
