The Babumoshai Bandookbaaz actor severely criticised former CBFC chief Nihalani's mindset towards different genres of films.
Pahlaj Nihalani failed to understand different kinds of cinema, says Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is not known for making strong statements or firmly criticising anyone. But he seems to have made an exception for former CBFC (Central Board Of Film Certification) chief Pahlaj Nihalani. The versatile actor has come down heavily on his ways of working and his lack of knowledge of different types of cinema.
While talking to India.com, Siddiqui expressed his happiness on Prasoon Joshi taking over as the CBFC chief. “That (Nihalani’s removal) comes as a great news, as he knows little about the variety that is in cinema. Prasoon Joshi, on the other hand, has a great sensibility. He has an understanding of all types of cinema that Nihalani lacked,” he said.
Elaborating his statement, he added, “He understands the variety of cinemas ranging from Anurag Kashyap’s to Rohit Shetty’s, and that these come together to make the industry beautiful and not monotonous. Nihalani only supported one kind of cinema. I am not saying that cinema isn’t good, but he failed to understand other kinds of cinemas.”
Nihalani and other members of the CBFC had ordered 48 cuts in Siddiqui's upcoming film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz and severely criticised its language. Reacting on this, Siddiqui said, “For an actor to be believable and the character to be authentic, they have to adapt to the local accent, the flavour, and the culture. Nihalani didn’t understand the nature of the local characters. He didn’t accept the existence of the language, the culture, which is something necessary.”
Also starring Bidita Bag and directed by Kushan Nandy, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz will be released on this Friday (25 August).
