We have heard about filmmakers going on a research spree at a location before the commencement of a shoot. But here is a rare example of an actor visiting locations to prepare for a role.
Deepika Padukone recently went on a solo expedition in Chittorgarh in Rajasthan to prepare for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati.
An official statement from the production house states, “Deepika is leaving no stone unturned in getting into the skin of her character and is taking extra efforts to give her best. The actress travelled to Chittorgarh on her own and, in fact, walked around a lot of local places and historical sites to get familiar with all the age-old structures and also gather as much information about them as possible.”
The statement added, “As history has it, Rani Padmini was brought to Chittorgarh or Chittor by the Rajput ruler Raja Rawal Ratan Singh after marrying her. Hence, the place is of utmost importance to Deepika for her role.”
Speaking about her experience of shooting Padmavati, Padukone said, “I shot for Padmavati in November and December. There was something extremely magical about it and I hope that the magic continues when I start shooting for the film again.”
Padmavati has been in the news for the bad reasons since the start of the year. It all started when Bhansali was attacked by goons from the Rajput Karni Sena in June since, according to them, the film shows queen Padmavati in a bad light. Last month, the sets of the film were burnt by unknown persons in Kolhapur thereby incurring losses.
