After the box office disaster that was Mohenjo Daro (2016), filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker seems to be shunning the history books. In a surprise move, the man who is known to make historical films and dramas, is said to be delving into action for his next. Gowariker has roped in actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar for the same, reported Mumbai Mirror tabloid.

"Ashutosh is taking a break from history and serious subjects with a stylish, modern, action-packed caper which unfolds in Europe. Farhan is the leading man. The hunt for an actress opposite him, as also other members of the cast, is underway," a source was quoted in the tabloid.

This is a maiden collaboration for Farhan and Gowariker. Farhan had made his directorial debut in 2001 with the Aamir Khan-starrer Dil Chahta Hain. The same year Gowariker had cast Aamir in the superhit film Lagaan, that received an Oscar nomination.

According to sources, Gowariker and Farhan have been having meeting, but struggling to lock the dates.

Recently, Gowariker and Farhan were hanging out together at Farah Khan’s house. Farah had hosted a party which was also attended by six other directors including Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Kabir Khan and Sajid Khan.

Farhan is currently filming for Ranjit Tiwari’s Lucknow Central. Gowariker has earlier made historical films like Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010) and period film Lagaan (2001).

If it comes through, then this will be the maiden action film for Farhan too. Farhan has previously directed two action films — Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011).
