The debate about whether celebrities should endorse fairness creams or not got momentum this week after actor Abhay Deol openly criticised a number of big stars for doing so. These included, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Shahid Kapoor, John Abraham, Sonam Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra.

This also gave rise to a Twitter war between Abhay and Aisha (2010) co-star Sonam. The actress dragged his sister Esha Deol who had once endorsed a fairness cream brand. Abhay accepted that it was wrong too and peace was made between both the actors.

Sonam’s father Anil Kapoor was recently asked about his take on the issue at an event. He refused to comment saying, “It’s a small thing. I don’t get involved in any matter regarding my kids. So, let it be between the kids. Sonam will be the right person to speak about this.”

But he did say that he was sure his daughter could handle the matter on her own. “If there is a crucial matter or anything I will talk about it; don’t involve me into these small things. Sonam can handle these things very well,” he added.

Anil and Abhay have been at loggerheads in the past. In 2010, during his chat on Koffee With Karan, Anil had said, “Abhay Deol seriously needs help. He is doing all the wrong things.” Things had become sour between both actors during the making of Aisha, which Anil had produced.

Giving Anil a scathing reply, Abhay had said, “He’s right about me doing all the wrong things. Aisha is the biggest proof of that. And yes I do need help. Help not getting affected by people like him. He’s a waste of my time.”
