In a shocking incident, actor Jeetu Verma’s car was attacked in Chittorgarh in Rajasthan. The incident happened when he was travelling to Jaipur from Mount Abu. Allegedly, some locals started pelting stones at his car. One hit his right eye and he started bleeding profusely. The injury has left him with a bruised right eye. There is a danger that he might lose sight from that eye.
Speaking to a daily, his brother Manohar Verma, who is an action director, said, “There is a 40-km patch of forest area near Chittorgarh, which is en route. It was broad daylight and Jeetu was sitting next to the driver in the front seat. Suddenly, some locals started pelting their car. The driver picked up speed but the stones kept coming. One hit the windshield and it cracked. Jeetu’s eye was hit and bleeding profusely even as the driver raced away.” Jeetu was taken to Udaipur airport, from where he was rushed to Mumbai. He is currently admitted in an eye hospital in Wadala.
In fact, the same day two other cars were attacked in the same way. The police are currently working on the case. But Manohar has expressed security concerns in Rajasthan by also highlighting the attack on Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of his film Padmavati by goons from the Rajput Karni Sena, who felt that the film allegedly portrays queen Padmavati in a bad light.
“There was an attack on Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the same region recently, for very different reasons, but security forces and the police officers were still incompetent. Something needs to be done. Rajasthan cannot become this unsafe!” he said.
Dr Natarajan, who operated Jeetu, revealed to the publication that he has suffered a fractured eyebrow and lost retinal function. He had to be given 10 stitches. It is unclear as to when he will regain vision in the eye.
Actor Suniel Shetty, who is Jeetu’s close friend, provided a helping hand by getting him admitted to Mumbai as soon as he landed.
Jeetu has acted in more than 25 films. This includes hits like Soldier (1998), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Humraaz (2002), Bodyguard (2011), Bol Bachchan (2012), Son Of Sardaar (2012) and Jai Ho (2014). He also runs a training academy in horse riding and owns 12 horses. He recently trained Kangana Ranaut for Rangoon (2017) and Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon for their upcoming film, Raabta.
Manohar has been an action director in successful Hindi films like China Gate (1998), Gadar – Ek Prem Katha (2001), Madras Cafe (2013), Mardaani (2014) and Airlift (2016) and the super-hit Tamil film, Madrasapattinam (2010).
