Emotions are flying high in the aftermath of the Uri terror attack which claimed the lives of 18 Indian soldiers.

A day after the Maharashtra Chitrapat Sena, cultural wing of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) ordered all Paksitani artistes to leave India, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra has gone a step further by threatening to stall the release of Raees and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil if their respective filmmakers did not chop roles of Pakistani actors.

Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan plays a supporting role in Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, while Mahira Khan is cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.

As per reports, BJP general secretary of Maharashtra, Sanjay Upadhyay is contemplating on writing to all exhibitors to not give any window (screens) to the two films, if they don’t chop off the roles by the Pakistani artistes in their respective films. Upadhyay further reminded Indian filmmakers not to cast Pakistani artistes in their films.

The issue of allowing Pakistani artistes in Indian films evokes a mixed response from commentators here. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt stated that the Indian producers and director shouldn’t be penalised for no fault of theirs. Bhatt left it upon the Indian government to decide whether Pakistani artistes should be allowed to be part of Indian films.

Meanwhile, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani, who is an admirer of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reckoned that the screws need to be tightened between India and Pakistan. Though, Nihalani is all for cultural ties between two nations, he is no mood to tolerate terrorism.
