Singer Adnan Sami, who hails from Pakistan, received Indian citizenship earlier this year after trying hard for years. In the past, he has hailed India and the countrymen on various occasions. He also praised Indian Army for the surgical strike on terrorist camps last week. The attack was in response to the Uri attack, which killed 18 Indian soldiers.

Sami faced widespread criticism and abuses on social media from Pakistani citizens for his stand. Now, during an event recently, the singer clarified that his tweets weren’t against Pakistan and the country should thank India for the surgical strikes.

He said, that Pakistan should thank India for “a brilliant, successful, mature and strategic strike against terrorism in Pakistan- occupied Kashmir, last week.” He added, “For years, Pakistan has been saying that they too are victims of terrorism. Here, when your neighbour is helping you out, you don’t want to even acknowledge it.”

Sami feels that his tweets were misinterpreted as he hasn’t taken a stand against Pakistan. “I never said a word against Pakistan. They interpreted it in their own way and that’s why I wrote that they see Pakistan and terrorists as the same.”

The singer had also urged Pakistani artists to condemn the Uri attack.
