The high cost of production might make things difficult for the Ajay Devgn directorial venture.
Box-office report: Shivaay leaps to an average height on first day

Ajay Devgn’s second directorial venture, Shivaay, had a decent amount of buzz before the release. Starring Devgn himself in the lead along with Sayyeshaa Saigal and Erika Kaar, the film is an action adventure revolving around a kidnapping.
There is keen anticipation for the film’s box-office numbers, more so because it clashes with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The numbers for day one are finally out and they don’t look too promising for Devgn. The film has managed to earn Rs8.75 crore on Friday, as per the figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The amount is decent under normal circumstances. But that isn’t the case with Shivaay since the film is reportedly made at a budget of Rs105 crore. Hence, it was imperative for it to earn more.
To be fair to the film, yesterday wasn’t a holiday so there wasn’t a chance for any of the two films to earn very big. But considering the budget of Shivaay and the first day numbers, it is crucial for it to earn much better in the long Diwali holidays.
The one positive thing for Shivaay is that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil hasn’t taken the box-office by storm, at least as of yet. It has amassed Rs13 crore on the first day.
