A couple of days back filmmaker Karan Johar, along with Vijay Singh, CEO of Viacom 18 and producer Mukesh Bhatt, met Mumbai’s deputy cCommissioner of police to seek help in the smooth release of his film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which is scheduled to release on 28 October. The Mumbai police assured help in tackling the situation.

The film has been facing extreme protest from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), whose members have threatened to vandalise theaters screening it since it stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The party has sprung into action against the film following the Uri attack in Jammu and Kashmir last month.

Last night, the police did take action against MNS by arresting 12 of its members who had barged inside Mumbai’s Metro Carnival cinema shouting slogans against the movie. They have been sent to judicial custody till 4 November.

Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra, has also assured strict action against anyone who disrupts law and order. However, this has had no effect on MNS as its opposition towards the film continues.

As Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is just a week away from release, Johar, Bhatt and UTV’s Sidharth Roy Kapur will be meeting the Union home minister Rajnath Singh today in New Delhi to discuss the situation and find a solution in releasing the film. The outcome of the meeting will play a major role in the fate of the film.
