It seems Hindi film celebrities have taken upon themselves to do away with the stigma attached to depression and other mental disorders. Last year, Deepika Padukone openly accepted the fact that she underwent severe depression at one point in her life. Just last month, filmmaker Karan Johar too opened up about his battle with clinical depression for a year-and-a-half.

Now, actor Hrithik Roshan has come out and revealed that he too was a victim of depression in the past and urged his fans to openly speak about issues related to the mind. The Mohenjo Daro actor was speaking in Mumbai during a mental health awareness programme.

Speaking on the issue, he said, “I’ve been through my ups and downs. I have experienced depression, I have experienced confusion, as we all do. It’s a very normal thing. We should be very casual about it when we speak about it. It should be spoken about casually.”

Roshan explained himself further by stating that just as we casually discuss problems related to body organs like the kidney or liver, the same should be the case with issues related to the mind. He also revealed that he has seen his friends suffer in silence while battling such issues.

“When we have a problem with the brain, which is also an organ, why do we get scared and feel as if it is our fault and we need to hide it from people?. Everybody at some point in their life is going to go through some mental issue,” he said.

On the work front, Roshan will now be seen in Kaabil, which is set to clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees on 2017 Republic Day.
