The internet is proving to be platform for many non commercial Indian actors. After Dia Mirza, it is Nimrat Kaur who is set to feature in web series that is being produced by Ekta Kapoor’s digital wing ALT Entertainment.
Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the untitled show will see Kaur play the role of an Indian army officer. It must be recalled that her late father was an Indian army officer.
"I grew up in cantonments and have been an out-and-out army kid all my life. My father was in the services since the time I was born to my formative years. That environment has enhanced my sense of belonging. Life and time have given me different opportunities but the army will always be my home," Nimrat confided, revealing that she had plans to join the army before she found her calling in acting,” Kaur told Mumbai Mirror.
"Now, I'm getting to do just that, wear the uniform like my father. Growing up, I'd watch Shah Rukh Khan in Fauji and I remember being fascinated with that as well. This show is the closest to being part of that world,” she added.
Praising Kukunoor, Kaur said that the director has a powerful mind for women orientated subjects and characters - as seen from films like Dor (2006) with Gul Panag and Ayesha Takia, and Iqbal (2006) where Shweta Prasad played Khadija, Shreyas Talpade’s sister.
"I love experimenting. I've done short films before, like Encounter, Elayichi and Love Shots. I've done TV series abroad like Homeland and Wayward Pines, so it's interesting to venture into digital series now,” the Airlift actress concluded.
Kaur has been around since 2013, but so far she has only featured in three Hindi films with only two films - The Lunchbox (2013), and Airlift (2016) getting a theatrical release. The lady had a cameo role in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) . She has no new Hindi film in herk kitty, thus going the web series way was perhaps the best option.
