The first poster of ‘Dhaakad,’ the new song from Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal, suggested it to be a powerful number featuring the character of Geeta Phogat (Fatima Sana Shaikh) and her father Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan).
This is exactly what the song has turned out to be. It’s a powerful, hard-hitting number that oozes high doses of energy. It basically narrates Geeta’s successful journey. It shows how she started off with those lower level wrestling matches and then went on to be an unmatched champion. All this while, her father’s encouragement is also something you can’t ignore.
The song also subtly touches the theme of the film — women empowerment. Geeta is shown easily defeating male wrestlers. But the message hits you even before the fight scenes commence when the referee tells Geeta’s opponent, “Chhori hai, samaj ke ladiyo,” to which she says, “Bas chhori samaj ke mat ladiyo.”
Lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya once again proves his versatility with this song. His words perfectly match the situation. Raftaar too rises to the occasion in a genre which is not his usual style.
Dangal is all set to release on 23 December.
