Rock On 2 has been largely panned by the critics, and the opening day box-office collection will not be music to the ears of producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

As per Boxofficeindia.com, the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer barely earned Rs2 crore in its opening day. With an approximate 1,700 screens, the sequel to the 2008 film, needed to collect much more. As per BoxofficeIndia.com, the film got an opening day net collection in the bracket of Rs1.75-2 crore. With a budget of around Rs55-60 crore, Rock On 2 has had a disastrous opening.

The demonetisation of Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes seems of have badly hit the business of Rock On 2.

Noted trade analyst Amod Mehra says, “We’ve been hearing about 50% of Rock On 2 screenings being cancelled. The opening day collections have barely crossed Rs1.5 crore. As I had said earlier, the makers should have postponed the release. It is made at a hefty budget of Rs55-60 crore. If the urban youth was using plastic money, then they would've watched Rock On 2. However, college boys and girls usually don’t get plastic cards from banks, and most parents definitely don’t give plastic money to their children. I reckon 80% of the viewers pay in cash for movie tickets.”

The demonetisation of currency apart, Mehra reckoned that the film’s content isn’t compelling.

“The first Rock On film was very lively, it was full of fun. Sadly, that’s not the case with Rock On 2, which is a big bore. It neither appeals to the masses nor the classes,” Mehra added.

With most struggling to get cash to meet their daily needs, the situation looks grim for Rock On 2.
