Director Sujoy Ghosh and Vidya Balan’s Kahaani sequel, Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, is one of the more keenly anticipated films of the year. Their partnership brought about critical acclaim and audience appreciation in 2012 and the duo hope that the success that followed the first film will continue on in its sequel. The film's makers have released its first song, Mehram, today.
The film’s marketing already promises a very different story from the original as Vidya does not reprise her character from the original. Here, she plays a mother on the hunt for her daughter. The first song, ‘Mehram’ released yesterday shows a different side to Vidya from the frantic despair she showed in the film’s trailer.
The melodic voice of Arijit Singh on the track written by Amitabh Bhattacharya shows the key relationships of her life with Tota Roy Choudhury’s yet unknown character and her young daughter played by Naisha Khanna. The pensive song lyrics speak of the possible hidden longing between Vidya for Choudhury's character, as someone can she have never have. The music for the song has been composed by Clinton Cerejo.
Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh also stars Arjun Rampal as a police officer on the case. The song shows him reading Vidya’s diary in the film trying to find out answers interspersed with shots of Vidya. Jugal Hansraj, Kharaj Mukherjee, Tunisha Sharma and Manini Chadha are also in the cast.
