Critics have seldom liked the Housefull franchise, but that hasn’t had any impact on the films, and Housefull 3, the latest in the series, is no different. Housefull 3 is set to become the most successful film of the franchise.

Housefull 3, released on 3 June across 3,000-plus screens in the country, has bagged Rs52 crore net in its opening weekend, as per Boxofficeindia.com.

Speaking to Cinestaan, trade analyst Komal Nahta said, “Housefull 3 released across 3,000-3,400 screens across the country. The approximate budget would be not less than Rs80 crore. The opening-day collection was Rs15.25 crore, while Saturday's figure was Rs16.25 crore. The Sunday figures are around Rs21 crore, taking the three-day total to over Rs50 crore. I reckon it is the highest opening weekend for a Hindi film this year."

Shah Rukh Khan's Fan, which released earlier this year, had also made Rs52 crore at the box office on the opening weekend. Housefull 3 has thus matched Fan's collection.

Earlier this year, Akshay Kumar’s Airlift bagged Rs44.3 crore in its opening weekend.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had pegged the two-day figure of Housefull 3 at Rs31.51 crore.

Meanwhile, according to Boxofficeindia.com, the Rs20 crore net on Sunday (5 June) was a record single-day collection for an Akshay Kumar film. The previous highest single-day collection for an Akshay Kumar film was for Airlift, which had bagged Rs17.35 crore on its third day. It’s also a first for any Akshay Kumar film to cross Rs50 crore in its opening weekend.

Tracking down the Housefull franchise opening-day figures, the first and second films had opening collections of Rs9.32 crore and Rs12.13 crore, respectively (source boxofficeindia.com). With Rs15.25 crore, Housefull 3 has set a new opening-day record for the franchise.

Meanwhile, Housefull 3 has set another record for an Akshay Kumar film in the overseas markets. According to Boxofficeindia, com, Housefull 3 broke the eight-year-old record of Singh Is Kinng (2008) by grossing US $3.5 million plus in the opening weekend. Singh Is Kinng had bagged US $3.05 million in its opening weekend.

Monday will naturally see a drop in collections, being a working day, but as of now it looks like Housefull 3 is on course to cross the Rs100 crore barrier. But given its huge production and marketing cost, this may just help the film break even.
