Folk and classic songs are like wine, getting better with age. This wine regularly gets repackaged by music directors in Hindi cinema. Now it has become difficult to keep track of the number of old/folk songs reprised.

Keeping up with the recycling craze, the makers of sex comedy Great Grand Masti have reprised the popular Rajasthani folk song, ‘Resham Ka Rumaal’, which was made famous by Ila Arun in her single.

Connoisseurs of Rajasthani folk music may not approve of it, but the redesigned ‘Resham Ka Rumaal’ is filled with every bit of masti. Triggering all the masti and madness is seductress Urvashi Rautela. Dressed in elements of Arabian couture, Rautela is the pivot around which the three resident desperados of Great Grand Masti swing.

When was the last time one saw Vivek Oberoi dance with such gay abandon? Aftab Shivadasini and Ritesh Deshmukh have the typical mischievous look in their eyes.

The sexy couture may be disturbing to the moral eye, but even the gods will not be able to take their eyes off the rhythmic moves. Rautela casts a spell on you not just with her looks, but also her dancing feet.

Comparisons with Ila Arun are fruitless, for the original always stands out. However, Soniya Sharma’s voice does bring out the Rajasthani flavour. Toshi Sabri croons the added lyrics, which stand as the only contribution to the folk song by lyricist Manoj Yadav.

Published on YouTube yesterday, the track has thus far received over 7,000 views. We leave it to readers to decide which is better – old or new ‘Resham Ka Rumaal’
