Mohenjo Daro is one of the most keenly awaited films of 2016, mainly for two reasons. It is yet another period drama by Ashutosh Gowariker, that too set in an era never portrayed before in Indian cinema. And it brings together again the team of Gowariker, Hrithik Roshan and AR Rahman for the first time since Jodhaa Akbar (2008).

The first trailer of Mohenjo Daro is out, and it speaks volumes for the lavish scale on which the film has been set. The three-and-a-half-minute preview piques your excitement about the film. The entire setting and the story of revenge set in the Harappan era show promise.

The trailer does not, however, rise to the level reached by trailers of some other period dramas, and this can be put down largely to the quality of the visual effects (VFX) and computer-generated imagery (CGI). The costumes of the film's leading lady, Pooja Hegde, also appear too modern for the era in which the story is set. Moreover, like other Gowariker films, there is a danger of Mohenjo Daro being too long.

On the other hand, there are quite a few things that stay with you from the promo, the most prominent being the music and background score. Another striking feature is the ending that showcases the destruction of the ancient civilization.

Produced by Gowariker's AGPPL and UTV Motion Pictures, Mohenjo Daro is scheduled to be released on 12 August 2016. The film will clash with Neeraj Pandey's Akshay Kumar-starrer, Rustom.
