Veteran actor Nana Patekar went down memory lane at the trailer launch of public relations guru Shailendra Singh's directorial debut Sunshine Music Tours And Travels. The film will see Sunny Kaushal, son of veteran stunt director Shyam Kaushal, among a host of newcomers making their debut.
This made Patekar nostalgic about Ankush (1986) in which he and a number of other actors made their Hindi film debuts. “This reminds me of Ankush where [director] N Chandra cast all newcomers, including me. Such films strike a chord because there are no inhibitions,” Patekar said.
Shyam Kaushal, who was also present, went down memory lane with Patekar. “He [Patekar] gave me my first break in Prahaar (1991). And he is there to bless my son also. When I was in a critical condition in hospital, I didn’t have much chance of surviving. He stood inside the operation theatre till I regained consciousness.”
Patekar, in trademark style, added, “When he [Shyam Kaushal] was being taken to the operation theatre, he told me to shift his family into a small flat if something were to happen to him. I told him, ‘Pehle marr toh sahi!' ” and burst out laughing.
The event was a rare occasion where Patekar and India’s first World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, shared the stage. Asked his reaction to the trailer, Kapil Dev joked, “I don’t know. This is not my field.” He later went on to praise the trailer.
Sunny’s brother, Vicky Kaushal, known for his acts in Masaan (2015) and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016), remarked, “It feels special to see Sunny on screen for the first time. Two or four years ago neither me nor Sunny knew we would ever be seen on the big screen.”
