Kabali smashes Sultan's opening weekend record

The Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil film, which was dubbed in three other languages and released all over India, bagged Rs109.25 crore nett in its first three days.

The critics haven't been too kind to the film, but that does not seem to have had any impact on the collections of Rajinikanth's Kabali.

The Tamil film, dubbed also in Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam and released on more than 4,000 screens worldwide, bagged a record opening-weekend collection of Rs109.25 crore nett all over India, following up on its record opening-day collection of nearly Rs46 crore nett, according to BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The earlier record for nett opening three-day collection was held by Salman Khan's 2016 Eid release Sultan, which bagged Rs105.50 crore, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com  Sultan's first three-day nett collections were Rs36.53 crore, Rs37.2 crore, and Rs31.5 crore, respectively.

Kabali's approximate nett collections for the first three days were Rs46 crore, Rs31 crore, and Rs32.25 crore, respectively, taking its three-day total to Rs109.25 crore.

The major territorial breakdown for the opening weekend is as follows.

Tamil Nadu – Rs48 crore
Nizam and Andhra – Rs20.25 crore
Mysore-Karnataka – Rs16.5 crore
Kerala – Rs8.5 crore
Rest of India – Rs16 crore (Hindi, but also includes Tamil, Telugu versions playing outside South India)

Earlier, Kabali set the record for highest opening weekend in overseas markets garnering $11 million worldwide beating the $10.32 million collection of Dhoom 3. The next record in sight is Sultan's opening week collection of Rs208 crore nett.
