Anupam Kher has reportedly adopted an impoverished Kashmiri pandit family from the village of Zadroo, Pulwama, in South Kashmir. Apparently, they were one of the few Pandits who chose to stay on in the Valley after others fled following the start of militancy in 1989.

The family, headed by a daily labourer called Ashok Kumar Raina, comprises five people including three daughters. Kher, who has been pretty vocal about his support for Kashmiri pandits, has promised to assist the family financially as well as take care of the eldest daughter's marriage expenses.
