Is this really Parveen Babi?

A rare print ad dresses the unconventional diva in a sari

One of Hindi cinema's original divas, Parveen Babi spent much of her career in Western clothing, lighting cigarettes, and being unapologetic about her culinary skills (remember the smashing omelet scene from Kaalia?).

She liberated the Indian actress from a number of stereotypes, but this rare picture underlines how beautiful she looked in a traditional avatar too.

Pictured here in the Illustrated Weekly of India’s April 11, 1974 issue, the header read as ‘I’m in love.' It may have comes as a shock to her fans, but the body copy speaks of her love for 100 % polyester saris by Bombay Dyeing.
