Republic Day 2017 would have seen a battle of three heavyweights — Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil, Shah Rukh Khan's Raees and Ajay Devgn's Baadshaho competing against each other. However, not wanting to be sandwiched between Kaabil and Raees, producer T-series and director Milan Luthria had pushed Baadshaho to 12 May. With Yash Raj Film having locked the day for their next Meri Pyaari Bindu, T-series has now pushed the release of Baadshaho to 1 September.

Confirming the same, actor Ajay Devgn tweeted:

With an intriguing line like ‘Every saint has a past...Every sinner has a future', Devgn announced 1 September as the new release date.

Baadshaho stars Devgn, Esha Gupta, Ileana D’Cruz, Emraan Hashmi and Vidyut Jammwal.

Originally scheduled to release on 26 January, Baadshaho got delayed first as Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh was replaced by Emraan Hashmi and director Luthria had not found his leading ladies. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was tipped to be part of Baadshaho, but then backed out with rumours hinting that she wasn’t comfortable being paired with Hashmi. In April 2016, Rai Bachchan had told journalists at a brand endorsement event that the makers had narrated the script to her, but she was yet to make up her mind.

The delay in finalising the cast invariably led to the shoot being delayed. The film eventually went on floors on 1 December.
