The digital medium is beginning to appeal to film actors, notably the forlorn ones. However, it is not common for a rising actor to take up a digital show. Rajkummar Rao, whose stock in Hindi cinema has been growing since City Lights (2014), Shahid (2013) and LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhoka (2010), has done just that.

Rao has been roped in by Ekta Kapoor, who had first tapped his talent for LSD, to play legendary freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in an upcoming web series to be produced by Alt Balaji, digital wing of Balaji Telefilms. The series promises to showcase the untold story of Bose's life. And, of course, Rao cannot turn Kapoor down.

“I am excited to explore the unheard journey of Netaji on screen," Rao said. "It's a great opportunity for me as an actor. I was blown away on hearing his life story. He is one of the most mysterious and fascinating persons in our history and, of course, we all know his love for the country. With Ekta and Synergy backing the project, I don't have any doubt that our audience will get to witness something never seen before,” the actor said.

“The unknown side of events, happenings and personalities has always intrigued me, I am drawn to these mysteries," said Kapoor. "Bose is such a strong character from our history and yet there is so much about him that we don’t know. The unbounded mystery around him is so fascinating and that was my trigger to tell this side of his story on the digital platform. It is edgy, fast-paced and everything that you don’t expect it to be!”

Exploring the 'Alt’ side of Bose, Rajkummar Rao is now spending a large part of his time researching and prepping for the once-in-a-lifetime role.

Ekta Kapoor is set to step into the web world with her new digital foray Alt Balaji early next year.
