Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal continued its phenomenal performance in the first by earning Rs19.75 crore on Thursday. After reaching the Rs100 club in just three days, the film kept amassing earnings in the Rs20 crore range daily on weekdays, which is extraordinary.
The Aamir Khan-starrer now stands at Rs192.50 crore, as per the figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film is expected to reach the magic figure of Rs200 crore mark today.
The film is the second biggest earner of 2016. The first being Ali Abbas Zafar’s Salman Khan-starrer Sultan, which made a lifetime business of Rs300 crore. Dangal is expected to overtake the film. But its performance in the second weekend, and, more importantly, in the weekdays to follow will make it fully clear if the Dangal goes past Sultan's milestones.
The Tamil and Telugu versions of the film opened poorly. But the collections went ahead slightly and the film has now made Rs5 crore from them.
Dangal is the story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and how he transformed his two daughters Geeta and Babita into champion wrestlers. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra have played the characters of the two daughters.
