The makers of Dangal have managed to win their wrestle against the box-office. The film has earned close to Rs200 crore in just one week through some positive word-of-mouth. Starring Aamir Khan in the lead, the film is a story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita.
Mahavir and his family hail from the village Balali in Haryana. Khan had visited their place in November to attend Geeta’s wedding. During his visit, he had promised to hold a screening of Dangal in the village. Staying true to his word, Khan recently showed the film to the Phogat family and the villagers.
The closest theatre to the village is around 100 kilometers away. The actor booked a screen where more than 500 people (entire population of the village) saw the film. Arrangements of snacks and transportation were also taken care of.
As per an official statement from the makers, the villagers laughed and cried during the movie. They also interacted with Khan after the screening.
Dangal stands a good chance of beating Salman Khan’s Sultan’s record of being the highest earner of 2016 with a whopping Rs300 crore at India box-office.
