Box-office: Dangal registers second highest Tuesday collection, enters Rs150 crore club

Director Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal stormed the box-office in the first weekend by earning as much as Rs103.80 crore. The film then passed the difficult Monday test by amassing Rs24.75 crore. Now, the Aamir Khan-starrer has continued its winning run on Tuesday too. The film earned Rs22.50 crore in the day.
In fact, the film has grabbed the second position in the list of highest Tuesdays ever. The first in the list is Salman Khan’s Kick (2014), which made Rs26.82 crore. The second position in the list, before Dangal took over, was held by Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Rs20.78 crore.
But the point to be noted here is that the first Tuesday for Kick was a big pubic holiday in the form of Eid. So, Dangal has the record of the highest collections on a non-holiday Tuesday. Dangal, however, has an advantage of enhanced ticket rates, just like Aamir’s earlier films, PK (2014) and Dhoom 3 (2013).
Dangal has now crossed the mark of Rs150 crore in just five days. Its grand total so far stands at Rs151.74 crore. The film now has some chance of being the highest earner of 2016 by beating Sultan’s record of Rs300 crore.
