Films that were released a couple of weeks before Dear Zindagi took a heavy beating due to the sudden demonetisation drive announced by the government of India. However, Dear Zindagi seems to have sailed through the controversial economic move emerging fairly unscathed at the box-office.

With Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead, Dear Zindagi has made a nett business of Rs46.75 crore in the first week, according to BoxofficeIndia.com.

Directed by Gauri Shinde, Dear Zindagi released on 25 November and had bagged Rs32.50 crore in its opening weekend. Expectedly, the subsequent weekday collection dipped.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had pegged the six-day domestic collection to Rs 44 crore.

The film bagged Rs2.75 crore on Thursday, taking its week-long total to Rs 46.75 crore. With an approximate budget of Rs30 crore, and having released across 1,200 screens, the week-long collection of Dear Zindagi is fairly decent, especially given the fate suffered by earlier films Rock On 2 and Force 2, which released in the middle of the ensuing cash crunch following the demonetisation announcement.

Bhatt and Khan's performances in the film have been well-recieved. Dear Zindagi will need to rake in more numbers to be declared a super hit. A lot will also depend upon the performance of Kahaani 2 which released today.
