Priyanka Chopra has definitely put herself on the map as a global Indian icon with roles in the soon-to-be-release Baywatch, and her hit television series Quantico. If there were any reservations about her reach as an icon, the announcement of her as a Global Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF should put that to rest.
The actress was previously a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF at a national level, but her rise as a pan-national icon seems to have elevated her status. She now joins a team of ambassadors which includes David Beckham, Jackie Chan, and Orlando Bloom among others.
The actress put up a picture on her Instagram page announcing her selection for the position.
Honored to continue the amazing work we've accomplished in India and take that commitment to those in need across the world as @UNICEF's Global Goodwill Ambassador... On their 70th anniversary tonight, I look forward to working with my fellow advocates to drive change in mindsets and ensure that we build a world where children's rights are respected and protected, and that there is a voice, #foreverychild
The actress would be working on the 'For every child' initiative, and contribute towards working for children's rights around the world. Speaking at the event later, Chopra said, "My wish for children is freedom. Freedom to think. The freedom to live."
Looks like the kids have a new Santa!
