The country has perhaps just two cine stars who enjoy pan-India appeal – Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth. Despite their legendary status, both are extremely down-to-earth and humble. And their birthdays are like national celebrations with not just fans but people from all walks of life wishing them.

Rajinikanth turned 66 today and it didn't take long for the wishes to pour in. Amitabh Bachchan was among the first to greet his good friend by posting a few tweets.

Shah Rukh Khan also greeted the Southern superstar in his inimitable style.

Currently, there is, perhaps, no bigger Rajinikanth fan than Akshay Kumar, who plays the antagonist in 2.0. The 'Khiladi' lavished wholesome praise on the superstar.

Prime minister Narendra Modi, too, sent his best wishes via Twitter.

Among other politicians to wish the superstar were Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Vasundhara Raje, chief minister of Rajasthan, and M Venkaiah Naidu, Union minister for information and broadcasting.

Swashbuckling former India cricketer Virendra Sehwag was equally gracious in wishing the superstar.

While the well-wishers poured in the best wishes, the superstar thanked each and every one of his high-profile greeters.
