Salman Khan has thrown his weight behind civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) campaign against open defecation. Khan will be looking at making his residential area Bandra defecation-free.

The BMC roped in Khan after it received complaints of open defecation at the Bandstand area in Bandra. Khan’s Being Human Foundation will be donating four mobile toilets for the cause.

The civic body had recently claimed that 12 out of 24 wards of the city were free of open defecation and that it aims to do away with the problem in the entire city by yearend. The problem of open defecation arises as a result of little or no access to toilets in some sections of the society.

"We are in receipt of your letter addressed to Mr. Salman Khan requesting him to become a brand ambassador of the BMC to assist the BMC in their cleanliness drives. We are pleased to inform you that Mr. Salman Khan will be happy to accept your invitation and through Being Human -the Salman Khan Foundation will help the BMC in creating awareness about cleanliness drives," (sic) read the letter by Being Human Foundation to the BMC.

"His presence will enhance the campaign's reach. We have not chalked out the exact details of the campaign yet. However, we will place mobile toilets at all chronic open defecation spots, including the ones in Bandra," assistant municipal commissioner Kiran Dighavkar told Mumbai Mirror.

Khan’s participation in the campaign gives a boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachch Bharat movement.
