Nawazuddin Siddiqui is known for giving some stellar performances in serious and at times dark films. Although there has been an undertone of humor in quite a few of his characters, he has never starred in an out and out comedy.

But there is a first time for everything. Nawaz’s first tryst with a light-hearted comedy is finally here in the form of Freaky Ali. The Kick actor plays the titular role of a street smart guy from Mumbai’s lower middle class. He is full of confidence which is seen from the fact that he excels in everything he tries. Ali even strikes gold in golf while playing the game for the first time ever.

The trailer succeeds in tickling your funny bone as Ali goes about his antics. Apart from being a situational comedy, there are some little things that rouse laughter. For example, the way he points out the matching colour of his clothes with that of Amy Jackson, the lead actress. Nawazuddin is also seen doing Salman Khan’s famous towel dance but with a golf stick. But it is the scene where he completes a tough challenge in golf that stands out.

From the trailer, it seems that the story is that of an underdog challenging the rich and the powerful. There also seems to be the formula of a poor guy falling for a super rich girl. And going by another formula, the central character needs a best friend, played by Arbaaz Khan in this case. The bromance between the two looks impressive, at least from the trailer.

Freaky Ali, India's first golf film, is directed and produced by Sohail Khan and presented by his brother, Salman Khan. The film is all set to release on 9 September 2016.
