Director Garth Davis’s Lion showcases the story of a young Indian boy, a long way from home in Australia, hoping to reunite with his real family. The film will premiere in the gala section of the upcoming film festival in Toronto.

Dev Patel plays Saroo Brierley, the adopted son of John (David Wenham) and Sue (Nicole Kidman), who resides in Hobart, Australia. Now grown, he is tormented with recollections of his past, his mother and brother with whom he was tragically separated one day after boarding the wrong train.

With help from his supportive parents and girlfriend (Rooney Mara), Saroo finds the courage to search for his way back home. Patel is believable as a young man who is coming to terms with his identity. The trailer is interspersed with shots of Patel in Australia and young Sunny Pawar as the five-year-old Saroo who gets lost in Kolkata. Indian actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval are also present in the film in key roles, but haven't been revealed in the trailer.

Adapted from Saroo Brierly's book, A Long Way Home, Lion will be shown in Toronto at 10 September and will be released worldwide by the end of the year.
