Neeraj Pandey's MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is one of the most awaited films of the year. It was the pan-Indian appeal of India's cricket captain, Dhoni, that led the producers deciding to release the film in multiple languages, including Tamil, Marathi, Telugu and Hindi. This decision has not gone down well with certain political sections in Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, has raised objections to the dubbing of the biopic. In a letter sent to Fox Entertainment, the film wing of the MNS, Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, stated that they would object to the Marathi release of the film although they have no problems with the Hindi version. Amey Khopkar, president of the wing, has been quoted by reports saying that the Marathi dubbing of a Hindi film might make things difficult for Marathi cinema. The CKS has suggested that the Marathi release of such a popular Hindi film will eat into the profits of smaller regional productions.

Last week, director Pandey had supported the decision to release the film in multiple languages by saying that Dhoni was one of India's most favourite icons, and its most successful cricket captain. The production house has not yet released a statement. It remains to be seen how they react to this development.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the leading role, and is set to release on 30 September.
