Dealing with the aftermath of a police complaint, three young roommates are caught up in a nightmarish web of lies and deceit in Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s September release, Pink.

Starring Taapsee Pannu as one of the roommates and Amitabh Bachchan as their lawyer, the film’s trailer has already grabbed eyeballs for its strong courtroom scenes, and especially for its language. It was unnerving to see the veteran actor play an unrelenting character on screen.

During recent media interviews, Bachchan was asked about the sexually forthright questions posed to Pannu’s character in those scenes. He commented that a lot of research and thought went into those difficult scenes.

“The language is aggressive and may be strong, but that is the construct of the screenplay, or shall we say the construct of the arguments the defence employs to defeat an argument or claim of the prosecution. It falls in line with the story of the film. And maybe they are expressions or words never spoken or heard before in a film courtroom sequence. But they have been vetted and approved by, as I said, several luminaries of the legal profession!”

Pink, which also stars Piyush Mishra, Angad Bedi and Kirti Kulhari, releases on 16 September 2016.
