Poor 'Fanfare' may push SRK's Raees to 2017

Slated to lock horns with Salman’s Sultan this year, SRK’s Raees could be pushed to next year

With his latest release Fan not doing as well as expected at the box office, the release of Shah Rukh Khan's next film, Raees, is said to have been pushed to next year.

Fan, produced by Yash Raj Films, has fared rather disappointingly at the box office, barely crossing the Rs100 crore (domestic market) mark in two weeks. This has, perhaps, forced Shak Rukh Khan and the producers of Raees to do a rethink over the release of the film, which was earlier scheduled for Eid 2016.

Raees is co-produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Excel Entertainment. The film is directed by Rahul Dholakia of Parzania fame.

Pushing back the release of Raees makes sense because the film would have found the going tough at Eid this year as box-office king Salman Khan's Sultan is also releasing then.

As per reports, SRK is now looking to release Raees during the 2017 holiday period. Ajay Devgn has already booked the Diwali period this year for his home production Shivaay while Karan Johar is set to unveil his Ranbir Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan romantic comedy Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at the same time.

Christmas, too, is ruled out as that is when Aamir Khan's biographical drama Dangal is scheduled to release. And come Republic Day 2017, Hrithik Roshan is slated to release his action drama Kaabil. Hrithik Roshan has also blocked the Independence Day weekend this year with his Ashutosh Gowariker-directed period drama Mohenjo Daro. The film is slated to release on August 12.

According to trade sources, Raaes has now been pushed back to a January 2017 release. Buzz has it that Shah Rukh Khan has been trying to persuade the Roshans to delay Kaabil, but one is not sure whether the Roshans would  let go of the Republic Day weekend. Besides, if Mohenjo Daro does not do as well as expected, Hrithik Roshan would need Kaabil to bail him out. It must be recalled that Hrithik Roshan's last flick Bang Bang turned out to be a box-office dud.

Meanwhile, amidst the Fan bashing and all the speculation over the releae of Raees, Shah Rukh Khan got a bit philosophical on social media. The actor tweeted -- @iamsrk: There is bound 2 b a point in ur journey when u feel separate from the world around u, but know it’s ok…cos there is still a long way left.
